Small outfits in Cappadocia tend to live or die on that number, because the flying itself is regulated identically for everyone. Turkish civil aviation divides the region into sectors and caps daily launches at around 150, so what separates one company from the next mostly happens on the ground. Here that means a light breakfast at the take-off area, eaten in the dark before boarding, since dawn is the only slot permitted and the crew is already at work when you arrive. Nowhere else in the world flies as many balloons as this region does, and the count overhead on a clear morning makes that plain. A flight certificate follows the landing. Weather runs the schedule, not the calendar. Somewhere between 250 and 300 mornings a year end with balloons in the sky, and the rest are called off, most of them between December and April, so a flight booked for the first morning of a stay leaves room to try again later in the week.

Someone meets you inside the domestic terminal with your name on a sign, and the first day runs north until about 16:00 to 17:00: Göreme Open Air Museum, Devrent Valley, Pasabag and Monks Valley, the Three Beauties. Balloons fly at dawn, so an added flight would go early on the second morning, before the 09:45 to 10:00 meeting at hotel reception for the southern half of the region. The return flight leaves Cappadocia between 19:00 and 22:00 and reaches Istanbul between 20:30 and 23:30, where a transfer takes you back to your hotel.
