When to fly over Florence
The flights leave from the hills outside the city — the Chianti side, mostly — and the season follows the Tuscan agricultural year more closely than the tourist one. April and May are green and clear; September and October are the harvest, and the light is the one every photograph of this landscape was taken in.
August is the month to avoid, and not for the reason people expect: it is not the heat in the basket, it is the haze. The valley holds it, the distance disappears, and the view that justifies the price goes with it.

What a Chianti morning looks like
The exact field changes with the wind and the crew confirms it the evening before, so the meeting point you get on a Monday in April is not the one your friends got in September. From there the balloon climbs to somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 feet and drifts for about an hour over the ridges between the Pesa and the Greve. Why does Tuscany cost more than other balloon destinations?
Partly the length of the year. Tuscany flies roughly April to October, seven months, where Cappadocia and Luxor fly twelve and spread their fixed costs over all of them — a seat there starts at 38 and 35 EUR. The floor here is 269. The catalogue also skews private: shared seats stop at 299 over Chianti and 449 over the city, and everything above that is a basket booked for one group.
What does the 4,500 EUR flight actually include?

Is there a minimum age for children, or a weight limit?
One Florence listing sets it by height rather than age: children are accepted from one metre tall, on the practical grounds that a passenger has to see over the basket edge and stand braced for the landing. Another states that it does not recommend passengers over 110 kg. Neither figure is a national rule — both belong to the operator and sit on the individual listing, so read the one you are booking.
