Free cancellationBalloon Flight + Valley of the Kings with an Egyptologist
5.0 (3) 5.0 stars out of 5, 3 reviewsThis is the full-day version of Luxor: a sunrise balloon flight first, then the monuments themselves with an Egyptologist who can tell you what you are looking at. From the basket, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple appear below in the first light, laid out like a map you are about to use. Back on the ground, an air-conditioned car and your private guide take over. The itinerary covers the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon, with transfers included throughout the day. Traveling with an Egyptologist changes the pace. Questions get real answers, hieroglyphs stop being decoration, and the tombs turn into biographies. It makes for a long day. It is also the one that covers Luxor properly.

Free cancellationGuided Hot Air Balloon Ride over Luxor at Sunrise
4.9 (70) 4.9 stars out of 5, 70 reviewsA guide comes with this flight, and the commentary is the point of it. Historical and cultural background arrives while the monuments are still in view, so the west bank gets explained as it passes below the basket rather than afterwards. The price sits at the top of the range for balloon flights in Luxor. Safety guidelines are given before boarding. The balloon then rises hundreds of feet with the sun still low, and that light does the work: vast temples and tall statues take on colour they never have in the middle of the day. Karnak and its complex of temples and chapels lie to the east. To the west is the temple of Hatshepsut, at the foot of the cliffs. The Colossi of Memnon rise from the flat ground, apparently standing guard over the royal tombs, and the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens pass below as well. Scale is the other reason to go up. From a few hundred feet the plan of each temple and the distance between them are visible at once, which no visit on foot gives you, and the guide fills in what each site was built for while it is still under the balloon.

Free cancellationHot Air Balloon and Best of Luxor Full Day Tour
4.6 (618) 4.6 stars out of 5, 618 reviewsOne booking covers a whole day in Luxor, and it starts before sunrise. Pickup from your hotel is early, with a light breakfast and tea before the balloon lifts off over the largest open-air museum in the world. Once the basket is down, the West Bank takes the morning. The Valley of the Kings holds the burials of many pharaohs, cut into rock and built on a scale meant to outlast everything around them. The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut comes next, raised for the woman who ruled Egypt for about twenty years in the 18th Dynasty and the only female pharaoh the country had. Then the Colossi of Memnon, all that is left standing of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. Lunch is optional and splits the day. The afternoon crosses to the East Bank for Karnak, the temple complex dedicated to the god Amon, and ends at Luxor Temple. Drop-off is at your hotel or your Nile cruise in Luxor.
