Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Over the Luxor West Bank
The plain version. A sunrise flight over the west bank of Luxor, around 45 minutes in the air depending on the weather, then back to the hotel. Nothing else is bolted onto it. A representative collects you from your Luxor hotel and takes you down to the water, where there is a breakfast stop before the motorboat crosses to the west bank. A transfer then runs to the take-off area. Once the balloon is up, the west bank sits below and the Nile runs behind it, which is the panorama the flight exists for. Cameras are worth having ready before take-off rather than after. Departures are daily, though the operator still recommends confirming in advance. Flight time varies with conditions on the morning, and once the basket is back on the ground the same transport returns you to your hotel. Among the Luxor balloon listings this is the least complicated one to book: a single flight, a single transfer, no itinerary to keep track of.

Temple of Medinat Habu
An early start in Luxor. A representative collects you from your hotel and heads for the West Bank and the balloon flight. The first stop is the water, where a refreshment breakfast is served before the motorboat crosses to the west bank. From the landing point a transfer runs to the take-off area, ready for the flight over the sky of the biggest open-air museum, Luxor. The balloon ride departs daily, but confirming in advance is still strongly recommended. Time in the air is about 45 minutes and varies with the weather. After landing, you meet the pickup again and return to your hotel.
Temple of Hatshepsut
Widely regarded as a masterpiece of ancient architecture. Its three massive terraces climb from the desert floor into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.

The price sits at the top of the range for balloon flights in Luxor. Safety guidelines are given before boarding. The balloon then rises hundreds of feet with the sun still low, and that light does the work: vast temples and tall statues take on colour they never have in the middle of the day. Karnak and its complex of temples and chapels lie to the east. To the west is the temple of Hatshepsut, at the foot of the cliffs. The Colossi of Memnon rise from the flat ground, apparently standing guard over the royal tombs, and the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens pass below as well. Scale is the other reason to go up. From a few hundred feet the plan of each temple and the distance between them are visible at once, which no visit on foot gives you, and the guide fills in what each site was built for while it is still under the balloon.
