2-Day Cappadocia Tour - Included Camel Ride & Balloon Ride

Of the three two-day Cappadocia packages sold from Istanbul on this site, this is the one where the balloon flight is part of the fare rather than an add-on, and the price gap of roughly 100 euros is the reason. The inclusions list, the itinerary and the title all treat the flight as included. One line of the provider's own blurb still calls it an option to add, which reads like text left over from the cheaper versions of the same package, so confirm it when you book. The camel ride is the other thing no rival listing here has. Round-trip domestic flights between Istanbul and Cappadocia are covered, along with one night at a cave boutique hotel, breakfast, lunch and entrance fees. The guided touring is semi-private, capped at 10 guests. The camel ride goes into the Red and Rose Valleys, with Zindanonu and Meskenler on the standard route and a substitute if the weather demands one. Worth knowing before booking as a family: nobody aged 17 or under is allowed on the camels. The balloon is sold in the Standard Category, about an hour in the air in a basket holding 20 to 28 passengers, roughly three hours all told, and the supplier refunds it if weather grounds the flight. Day two is a guided circuit by road: the Three Beauties, Goreme National Park, the open air museum UNESCO listed since 1985, Tokali Church. Ortahisar and Uchisar are panoramic stops. Lunch is testi kebab in Avanos. The flight home leaves between 8:00pm and 9:30pm.

Ürgüp

Ürgüp, Nevşehir, Türkiye

  1. Istanbul

The trip starts with an airport transfer. A driver collects you at your hotel reception in Istanbul, or from an Airbnb address where parking is accessible, and takes you to the airport for the flight to Cappadocia.

  2. Cappadocia

A driver meets you at the exit gate of the arrival terminal in Cappadocia, holding a sign with your name on it, and drives you to your hotel. There is time to freshen up before the camel ride, which is scheduled for the same day and gives you a first look at the region from the saddle.

  3. Camel Ride (INCLUDED)

Camel ride (included). Your guides run a safety briefing, you are introduced to the camels, and the safari sets off into the Red and Rose Valleys. The standard route covers the Red and Rose Valleys, Zindanonu Valley and Meskenler Valley. If conditions on your date do not suit that route, the guides replace it with another. You are dropped back at your hotel at the end.

  4. Cappadocia

You are transferred back to your hotel in Cappadocia once the ride ends.

  5. Hot Air Balloon Ride (Included • Fixed Price Guarantee • No…

Hot air balloon ride (included, fixed price guarantee, no last-minute price increases). Pickup is from your hotel, with time at the launch site to watch the balloon being prepared. Take-off is at sunrise, the only window Turkish civil aviation allows for ballooning in Cappadocia. The pilot climbs to about 700 to 1,000 metres above ground level, and on some stretches of the flight brings the basket down to within a metre of the rock formations, which is where the photographs come from. The flight is sold in the Standard Category, roughly an hour in the air in a basket of 20 to 28 passengers, with the whole activity running about three hours. Champagne is poured once you are back down, and if weather cancels the flight the supplier refunds it.

  6. The Three Beauties (Uc Guzeller)

Your local guide meets you at the hotel reception to start the second day. The route has been shaped over years of running it and reacting to guest feedback, and it works as an introduction to the region's history, culture and geology. First stop is the Three Beauties, the trio of fairy chimneys that has become one of Cappadocia's standard images, and the legends attached to it.

  7. Goreme National Park

From the Three Beauties the road continues to Göreme National Park and the valleys, fairy chimneys and volcanic rock that made Cappadocia's reputation. Inside this UNESCO-listed area you visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum and Tokalı Church, both known for rock-cut architecture and well-preserved Byzantine frescoes.

  8. Goreme Open Air Museum

One of the earliest monasteries in Christian history. The settlement was cut into the rock and used to teach and spread Christianity, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1985. What survives is a cluster of fresco-covered churches and rock-hewn living quarters.

  9. TokalI Church

Tokalı Church, the Buckle Church, is held to be the finest of the Cappadocian cave churches. The frescoes inside are the reason for that reputation, valued for their theology as much as their painting. The church sits within a larger complex of four churches and a hermitage, all dating to the 9th century. It was once the best known church in the region and remains one of the most impressive.

  10. Ortahisar Castle

Ortahisar Castle, in the town of Ortahisar in Nevşehir, is called the most spectacular fairy chimney in Cappadocia. It is said to be one of the first multi-storey settlements in the world, with steep valleys on three sides, and that position made it useful for defence and shelter in ancient times. The castle is not entered, because of the walking involved and safety concerns, so the stop is panoramic. After it comes a brief visit to a cooperative where Turkish carpets are made. Weaving traces back to Central Asia and is still practised in Cappadocia, and the stop is a chance to see how the work is done.

  11. Avanos Oren Yeri

Lunch is at a local restaurant in Avanos, where the dish to order is testi kebab, a kebab particular to the Cappadocia region. Vegetarian options are available at the same restaurant. Avanos has an old town of cobbled streets and river views, set above the Kızılırmak, the Red River and the longest in Turkey, which separates the town from the rest of Cappadocia. In antiquity it was called Venessa. Earthenware pottery has been made here since Hittite times, using clay from the red silt of the river, and it remains a working part of the local economy. There is a short stop to see it.

  12. Uchisar Castle

Uchisar rock castle is one of the biggest landmarks in Cappadocia, the highest tuff hill in the area, with views over a valley full of oddly shaped rock. The castle is not entered, again because of the walking and the safety risk. The stop is for the panoramic view of it.

  13. Devrent Valley

Devrent Valley is also called Imagination Valley, for the rock formations here that resemble animals, mostly in shades of red. The shape people pick out most often is a camel.

  14. Fairy Chimneys

The fairy chimneys are the landform Cappadocia is known for, and this is where they are seen at their clearest, along with the way people have lived alongside them. By the end of the tour you will have passed many examples across the region.

  15. At the end of the tour

The tour ends with a transfer to Cappadocia airport for the flight back to Istanbul.

  16. Upon your arrival at the airport in Istanbul

A driver meets you at the airport in Istanbul and takes you to your hotel. The return flight departs between 8:00pm and 9:30pm and lands in Istanbul roughly between 9:30pm and 10:45pm, which leaves the whole of the second day free for the guided tour of Cappadocia before you fly.
