Nile Cruise Luxor to Aswan, 3 Nights, Balloon & Abu Simbel
At 1,014.77 EUR this is the most expensive product on the site, and it is not the longest. Four days and three nights, Luxor to Aswan, against five-day cruises here that cost less. Weigh that first. The rest is what the listing actually contains. Departures are Saturday, Monday and Thursday. A licensed guide meets you at Luxor airport, the railway station or your hotel and takes you by air conditioned van to a five-star ship, checking in before lunch. Karnak comes first, 63 acres of it, built over 2000 years, then Luxor Temple with its obelisk and its Egyptian, Christian and Islamic work on one site. The second morning is the balloon, then the Valley of the Kings, the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut at El Deir El Bahari and the statues of Memnon. Edfu follows by horse carriage, Kom Ombo late in the afternoon, then Abu Simbel, 285 km south of Aswan, on a 4:30 am check out and a three hour drive in a small shared group. The balloon is 30 to 40 minutes over the west bank, pickup between 5:30 and 6:00 am. Cameras are barred from the basket, so pictures are phone only. Weather cancels flights and the ship sails anyway; a cancelled flight is refunded, though no amount is named. Full board is included, you check in with lunch and out with breakfast, and the evenings run to a belly dancing show, a galabiya party, a Nubian show or a disco. Arrive in Luxor before 12:01 pm on day one. The trip ends in Aswan around 5 pm, so book an evening departure.

Luxor
A licensed guide meets you at Luxor airport, the railway station or your hotel, and an air conditioned van runs you to the five-star Nile cruise ship for check-in before lunch. Lunch is on board.
The Karnak Temple
The touring starts at Karnak, the largest temple ever built, put up over 2000 years and covering roughly 63 acres of ground.

Luxor Temple next, where ancient Egyptian, Christian and Islamic work all stand on the same site. The obelisk and the statues are the things to look at. Back to the ship after that, dinner on board, overnight at Luxor. Note: cruise check-in is at 12:00, so if you reach Luxor well before then the tour starts straight away rather than leaving you waiting in the lobby.

Pickup is between 5:30 and 6:00 am for a balloon flight of 30 to 40 minutes over the west bank of Luxor. From up there the country opens out below you, the famous sites among it. The sun comes up over a city that gets called an open air museum, with the great temples and the mountains underneath.
Valley of the Kings
Breakfast, then the drive over to the West Bank and the Theban Necropolis. The Valley of the Kings is the first stop, where New Kingdom pharaohs cut their tombs into the mountains to keep their treasure hidden and their mummies safe.

On to the mortuary temple of queen Hatshepsut at El Deir El Bahari. Your guide tells the story there, including how she came to rule as sole pharaoh.

Colossi of Memnon
The West Bank finishes with a photo stop at the gigantic statues of Memnon. Back on the ship by noon for lunch, then sailing on with afternoon tea on the sundeck. The ship crosses the Esna Lock. Overnight at Edfu.
After your breakfast
After breakfast a horse carriage takes you and your guide to the temple of Horus at Edfu, reckoned the most complete and best preserved of all the Egyptian temples. Then back to the ship. The deck is the place to be while it sails to Kom Ombo, with the river and its banks going past. Lunch on board. Afternoon tea on the sundeck.

Kom Ombo Temple
Late in the afternoon the ship stops at Kom Ombo for the double temple, one half for Sobek the crocodile god, the other for Horus the falcon god. Back on board for dinner, and after dinner a folkloric party run by the cruise staff and the guides. Sailing continues to Aswan, where you spend the night.

Abu Simbel Temple
Check out is around 4:30 am. Luggage goes to the cruise reception and you collect a breakfast box. Your guide picks you up for the Abu Simbel trip, shared with a small group, and the drive takes about three hours. What you come for is the rock-cut temples, built for King Ramesses II and his queen Nefertari, and there is nothing else in Egypt shaped quite like them.

Temple of Philae
You are back in Aswan around 1:30 pm to collect your luggage from the ship. A small motorboat takes you across to the Graeco Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Isis. After that comes the transfer to your Aswan hotel, the airport or the railway station.
