The take-off site is not fixed in advance. Pilots read the wind on the morning itself and pick the launch field that keeps the balloon airborne longest and puts it on the best line across the valleys, which is why two flights on consecutive days can cover different ground. Hotel pickup is an hour before sunrise, timed so the basket is up for first light. Flights run low through the canyons before climbing, and the ground changes character with altitude: fairy chimneys and eroded ridges at close range, then the whole of Göreme National Park at once from higher up. Cappadocia has more balloon flights than any other destination in the world, and Turkish civil aviation limits the fleet to 100 balloons in the air at the same time, almost all of them at dawn, so the sky around you fills with other balloons rising in the same light. Weather decides whether a morning flies at all: the region went up on 223 days in 2025 and 236 in 2024, and the cancelled mornings bunch between December and April, so an early slot in your stay leaves room to be rescheduled.
