This flight leaves before sunrise, which in Cappadocia is the only time balloons go up at all. Commercial ballooning here happens at dawn, and Turkish civil aviation holds the whole region to 100 balloons in the air at the same time across its sectors, so the sky fills and empties inside a narrow window each morning. The morning starts with a pickup at your hotel and a drive to the take-off area. There you get coffee or tea and snacks while the balloon company waits for the day's flight permit from the civil aviation authority, and nobody boards until it comes through. Then you climb into the basket for about an hour in the air. Cappadocia is the most flown balloon destination in the world. The ground underneath is soft volcanic rock, cut by wind and water into the pillars known locally as fairy chimneys, with dovecotes carved into the rock faces and stone that runs through several shades of red. The itinerary names Kızılçukur, Güllüdere and Love Valley. From the air you can read how the valleys connect to each other, which is hard to work out from the roads. Where the balloon actually goes depends on the wind that morning, since a pilot steers by changing height to find air moving in a different direction. After landing there is champagne, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and a symbolic flight certificate, then the drive back to your hotel. All fees and taxes are included in the price. Weather decides more here than at most flying sites. The region got airborne on 223 mornings in 2025 and 236 in 2024, and cancelled mornings cluster between December and April.
