Kapadokya Balloons describes itself as the first balloon company in Turkey, flying since 1991 and the first to be registered and licensed by the civil aviation authority under the Ministry of Transportation. The company also states that it holds the largest allocation of daily balloon slots in Cappadocia under the 2013 legislation, at 10 plus 5, and lists ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certification. Those are the operator's own claims and are worth reading as such. The flight underneath them is a dawn ascent of the kind the region is known for. Collection is from your hotel early in the morning. Take-off sites are picked on the day according to wind direction, chosen to get the longest flight time and the most useful line through the valleys. A balloon has no engine and no steering wheel, so the pilot works with the air rather than against it and the route is never set in advance. Time aloft is around 45 to 60 minutes, either low through the canyons or high above the valley system, depending on what the wind is doing. Landing is followed by a sparkling cocktail in the traditional way, then a flight certificate, then the drive back to the hotel. Cappadocia is the most flown balloon destination in the world, with dawn-only flying and roughly 150 launches permitted a day across the region. Weather still sets the calendar: operators get airborne on roughly 250 to 300 mornings a year, and the cancelled ones cluster between December and April.

  1. Cappadocia

Collection from your hotel is early in the morning. The pilots select the take-off site on the day according to wind direction, aiming for the longest flight time and the most interesting line through the valleys. A hot air balloon has no engine and no steering wheel. There is no pre-determined route as a result, and the flight path depends entirely on the air the balloon finds that morning. At the launch field the crew helps you into the basket, and once everyone is settled the pilot gives a full passenger safety briefing. From there the balloon either drifts low through the canyons, working into the hidden corners of the valleys, or climbs for the wider view over the rock country. Flight time is around 45 to 60 minutes. Landings are marked in the traditional way with a sparkling cocktail, and a flight certificate is handed out before the return drive to your hotel.
