Sunrise Balloon Flight Over Luxor's West Bank Temples
The alarm comes early, but the timing is the point. A driver collects you before first light and crosses the Nile to the west bank, where the crew is still inflating the envelope when you arrive. You share the basket with other passengers, and once the burner lifts you off the ground the noise gives way to something rare in Egypt at any hour: quiet. The flight lasts 35 to 45 minutes. Below, the temples of the west bank come out of the shadow line one by one as the sun clears the horizon, and the green band of the Nile valley separates from the desert with a sharpness you cannot see from the ground. The balloon drifts wherever the morning wind takes it, so no two flights follow the same line. By the time you land, Luxor is awake and you have already had the best view of the day.

Luxor
After early morning pickup from your central Luxor hotel, travel by air-conditioned vehicle to the launch site on the west bank of the Nile River. On arrival, enjoy a light pre-flight snack and refreshments, and meet your expert pilot and ground crew. Next, listen to a comprehensive safety briefing and step inside the balloon’s sturdy basket with your pilot and several other passengers. Then, feel your adrenaline surge as the brightly colored balloon rises into the still-dark sky for your approximate 30 to 45-minute flight. Soak up the jaw-dropping, aerial views just as the sun peeps over the east bank of the Nile River. Watch as the light illuminates the surrounding mountains and buildings of Luxor, and be sure to capture the unforgettable scenes on camera. Look to the east to see the pillars of Karnak Temple greet the morning sun, and then turn west to admire Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple cast in the glow of dawn.
