Sunrise Balloon Flight over Bragança and the Montesinho Hills

Bragança sits in the far north-east of Portugal, close enough to the border that Spain is part of the view. This flight crosses the town at low altitude and then the country around it. The morning starts on the ground with the inflation, which is the part passengers photograph most. Once up, the castle is the first thing that reads from the air: a medieval keep with its towers, and below it the old town in a grid of tiled roofs and squares. The Fervença river runs through it. Further out the ground rises into the Serra de Montesinho, and on a clear morning the Sierra de la Culebra marks the Spanish border in the distance.
