Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Watching Tour (No Flight)
This is a ground tour. Nobody boards a balloon on it. The morning is spent on the high hills above the valleys watching the fleet lift off, with a driver collecting you from your hotel and taking you back once the balloons are down. It is the low-cost way to see the Cappadocia sunrise if you are not flying, and from down here you watch the whole launch, which is the one thing passengers in a basket never see. Cappadocia sits about 1,000 metres above sea level, in one of the more historically dense regions of Turkey, and its valleys are full of rock formations and fairy chimneys. Those valleys are what the balloons drift over. Cappadocia is the most flown balloon destination in the world, and Turkish civil aviation caps daily launches at around 150 across the sectors, so on a clear morning the sky fills fast. Pickup is early, before the first burners fire. The driver moves between different spots instead of parking at one, so the balloons come at you from more than one angle as the light changes. Warm clothes are advised, and so are spare camera batteries. One thing to know before booking: flights are dawn only and get grounded whenever the weather turns, most often between December and April, and on those mornings there is nothing in the air to watch.

Goreme
A driver collects you from your hotel early in the morning and heads for the high hills of Cappadocia, in time to watch the balloons start rising. Bring warm clothes and spare camera batteries. The driver moves between several spots so you get the balloons from different angles rather than one fixed view. Once the balloons have landed, you are driven back to your hotel.

Balloons fly at dawn, so an added flight would go early on the second morning, before the 09:45 to 10:00 meeting at hotel reception for the southern half of the region. The return flight leaves Cappadocia between 19:00 and 22:00 and reaches Istanbul between 20:30 and 23:30, where a transfer takes you back to your hotel. The operator states that it runs small group and private tours rather than 40 seat coaches. Note the terms before you book: all sales are final.
