Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Watching Tour (No Flight)

This is a ground tour. Nobody boards a balloon on it. The whole thing takes about two hours, spent on the high hills above the valleys watching the fleet lift off, with a driver collecting you from your hotel and taking you back once the balloons are down. It is the low-cost way to see the Cappadocia sunrise if you are not flying, and from down here you watch the whole launch, which is the one thing passengers in a basket never see. The valleys below are full of rock formations and fairy chimneys, and they are what the balloons drift over. Cappadocia is the most flown balloon destination in the world, and Turkish civil aviation caps the sky at 100 balloons airborne at once across the sectors, so on a clear morning it fills fast. Pickup is early, before the first burners fire. The first stop is the departure valley, close enough to watch the preparations and the balloons leave the ground; once they are up, the driver moves on to Love Valley, where the view of the sky is at its widest. Warm clothes are advised, and so are spare camera batteries. One thing to know before booking: flights are dawn only and get grounded whenever the weather turns, most often between December and April, and on those mornings there is nothing in the air to watch.
