Vilnius is one of very few European capitals where a balloon is allowed to cross the historic centre. Most cities push ballooning out to farmland for the obvious reasons — controlled airspace, nowhere to land, a fire risk over roofs — and Vilnius instead built a permission around it. Which of the two you get, and whether it is the city or the castle, is decided by the wind on the day.
One consequence of flying over a city rather than farmland: the landing is the interesting part. Crews are practised at putting a basket into small spaces, and the retrieval van follows the balloon through the streets, which is a spectacle in itself for the people watching from the pavement.

When will I know where we are taking off from?
Often the evening before, sometimes on the morning itself. Air traffic control releases the city window on the day and the crew picks the launch site to suit the wind, so operators confirm late by necessity rather than by disorganisation. Keep the morning free rather than the hour.
Is the evening flight different from the dawn one?
Same route, different light and a very different start to your day. The long Baltic twilight gives pilots a second dependable calm window, which is why the evening slot exists here and almost nowhere else on this site. In June and July it stays light late enough that an evening flight lands well before dark.
How long does the whole thing take?
Two to three hours door to door for roughly an hour in the air. The balance is the inflation, which is worth watching, and the drive back from wherever the balloon has come down — in a city flight that can be a short hop or a proper detour, depending on how far the wind carried you.
What should I wear?
Layers and closed shoes with a flat sole. Even in July a Lithuanian dawn is cool at altitude, and you will be standing on wet grass at some point. The burner keeps the basket warm from above; nothing warms your feet.
