When to fly near Agadir
The Atlantic changes the arithmetic. Agadir is on the same latitude as the Moroccan interior but the ocean keeps both ends of the year mild, so the season here has no true off-months — only two peaks, spring and autumn, when the coastal breeze is at its lightest.
The flights leave from the plains and valleys inland rather than the coast itself, which is deliberate: sea breezes and ballooning are a poor match, and the fifteen minutes of driving buy calmer air.

The country inland from the resorts
What passes below is agricultural Morocco rather than the beach one. The plain behind Agadir is irrigated farmland broken by palm groves and argan trees — the argan grows almost nowhere else on earth, and from the air the scattered, wide-spaced canopies are the giveaway that you are in the Souss valley and not somewhere else in the country. Berber villages sit in tight clusters of flat-roofed houses, usually beside a watercourse, and the tracks between them are visible as pale lines across the red ground.
The horizon does the rest. The foothills of the Anti-Atlas stand along one side, and on a clear winter morning the High Atlas is a white line behind them. It is a quieter landscape than Marrakech, three hours north-east, and there are far fewer balloons in it: the operator flying here brought its envelopes down from Marrakech after years of working that sky.
