This one goes up at sunrise over the Rio Grande Valley, with the sun coming over the Sandia Mountains and the sky turning red and orange behind them. The pilot talks through what you are looking at: how New Mexico is put together, and why the ground below behaves the way it does. Landing comes with a toast and light refreshments.

Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon
Early start, check-in at the office, then the drive to the launch site, which changes day to day depending on the weather. The pilot starts inflating as soon as you arrive, and you can help the crew with it if you want the hands-on version. Once up, the Rio Grande Valley opens out below. The route is the pilot's call based on wind direction, and it can take you over the city itself or low enough to skim the river and wave at people on the ground. About an hour in the air, then the landing, the ground crew arriving, a glass of sparkling wine and a flight certificate before the drive back to where the morning started.
