Soganli Valley Hot Air Balloon Flight in Cappadocia
Soganli sits away from the Goreme sector where most Cappadocia balloons launch, and it is a recent addition to the region's approved flight areas. Getting there takes about 50 minutes in the morning, in the operator's own vehicles, which is the trade you make for a quieter patch of sky. Cappadocia is the most flown balloon destination in the world and Turkish civil aviation caps daily launches at around 150 across all sectors, but over Soganli there are usually 10 to 12 balloons up at the same time. A light breakfast comes before boarding. The flight runs around 45 minutes, give or take 10 minutes depending on wind and weather, and each balloon carries a maximum of 16 passengers. Lord Balloons describes its pilots as experienced. Back on the ground there is a ceremony with champagne and medals. Dawn is the only window here. Permission to fly is issued morning by morning, so the whole schedule turns on the weather, and operators in the region get airborne on roughly 250 to 300 mornings a year.
