Not every Cappadocia balloon flies over Göreme. Soganli is about 45 km south of the main flight area, Ihlara around 85 km southwest, and both are far enough out to be a different morning entirely. The rock is the same volcanic tuff, but what passes under the basket is green: the Melendiz stream running along the floor of the Ihlara gorge, vineyards and orchards at Soganli, and Byzantine churches cut into the hillsides at both.
Whether that is a better morning depends entirely on what you came for, and it is worth being honest with yourself before booking. The image that sells Cappadocia, the one on every feed, is the fleet: a hundred and fifty envelopes at different altitudes with the sun coming up behind them. You do not get that here. What you get instead is the landscape without the traffic, at prices that start below the Göreme average, with a longer transfer at the beginning of it. Photographers who want the crowd should stay north. Anyone who found the idea of a queue at altitude off-putting should look here first.

Soganli and Ihlara are not the same place
Soganli is a pair of valleys with a cluster of rock-cut churches and dovecotes carved into the cliffs, and several of these flights point at them specifically. Ihlara is a gorge, roughly 14 km long and up to 100 metres deep, with a stream at the bottom and enough tree cover to make the floor genuinely green, which is unusual in this landscape. Two of the seven listings are sold as either-or, with the operator choosing on the morning according to the wind. If one of the two matters to you, confirm which valley you are flying before you pay.
What the extra distance costs you
Pickup is earlier, because the drive is longer: budget an extra 40 to 60 minutes each way compared to a Göreme flight, on roads that are fine but unlit. The compensation is that these launch fields are not competing for slots against a hundred other balloons, so the morning tends to run less like a production line. Basket sizes here are ordinary, in the 16 to 24 range, and one operator states outright that theirs is a normal size for the region rather than a premium small-basket product. That kind of plain speaking is rarer than it should be in this catalogue, and it is a reason to trust the rest of what they tell you.

Will I miss the photo of all the balloons?
Yes, and that is the trade. The image everyone associates with Cappadocia is a hundred envelopes over Göreme at sunrise, and it does not happen here. What you get instead is a valley to yourself, at prices starting below the Göreme average. If the photograph is the reason you are going, book the main flight area.
How far is Soganli from Goreme?
About 45 km south, roughly an hour by road. Ihlara is further, around 85 km southwest. That means an earlier pickup and 40 to 60 extra minutes of driving in each direction compared with a flight from the main area.
Why are these flights cheaper?
Less competition for the sky and lower demand, not smaller balloons or shorter flights. Prices here start at 70 EUR against 38 for the cheapest Göreme listing, but the median is 92 against 120: the middle of the market is cheaper out here even though the entry price is higher.
What does the landscape look like?
Greener than the postcard version. The Ihlara gorge has a stream and tree cover on its floor; Soganli has vineyards, orchards and Byzantine churches cut into the hillsides. It is the same volcanic rock as Göreme, but with water in it, which changes the colour of everything underneath the basket.
