Hot Air Balloon Ride Catalonia with Barcelona Pickup
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
BarcelonaThe drive out of Barcelona takes 30 to 45 minutes and the balloon is off the ground early, climbing to as much as 3,000 feet (900 metres). Flying time runs between 1 and 1.5 hours. Of the Catalan flights sold from the city, this one carries by far the most feedback: 4.9 from 628 reviews. The launch field is inland, near Vic, and that is the part worth being clear about. The balloon does not fly over Barcelona. The city is where the van collects you. What passes underneath is Catalan farmland, scattered masies and the medieval street plan of Vic's old town. On a clear morning the view reaches the Pyrenees, Montserrat, the Montseny massif and the Mediterranean, and Barcelona itself can show up on the horizon. The optional city centre pickup covers the roundtrip transfer to the flying area, with a stop at a Catalan cafeteria on the way out. Landing is followed by a Champagne brunch. Anyone who wants longer in the air can take the 2-hour flight instead, and there is a private option with the pilot.

Carrer 11 de Setembre, Vic
Booking the flight without the Barcelona pickup option means making your own way out to the flying area. In that case participants report directly to the Cafetería Zèfir in Vic city at the arranged time.
Hard Rock Cafe Barcelona
With the pickup service booked, the morning starts at Plaza Cataluña in the centre of Barcelona. The ballooning team meets you on the square, everyone gets into the van, and the drive to the flying area begins. The Hard Rock Cafe on the same square is a different proposition after dark, with music, international food and a lively room.
Before heading to the balloon launch site
The van stops at a typical Catalan cafeteria before the last leg to the launch site. Coffee, fresh orange juice and a quick snack are available here. This is also the meeting point with the ballooning team, and the last chance to use a toilet before the balloon.
Vic
The drive out of Barcelona ends at the meeting point in the flying area, next to Vic. Take-off is close to the town, so the old quarter of Vic reads clearly from the air: medieval streets, with typical Catalan masies spread around them. The rest of the flight crosses open countryside, with views of the Pyrenees, Montserrat, the Montseny massifs and the Mediterranean. When visibility is good, Barcelona itself can be picked out in the distance.
Montseny
Montseny Natural Park sits under the flight path, its big mountain topping out at 1,700 metres and only 40 km from Barcelona. In winter the summit holds snow, which is easy to pick out from the basket.
Plaza de Catalunya
The drop-off is back at Plaza de Catalunya, in the city centre. From this square you can walk straight into another activity or head down the Ramblas to the nearest restaurant.
