Cairns & the Tropical NorthThe same dawn flight over the Atherton Tablelands, with a three course meal attached: a voucher for lunch or dinner at Lemoncello's Restaurant, emailed to you after the flight. What makes this corner of Queensland unusual from a basket is that you can see two different things at once. Look one way and the Tablelands run inland, rainforest hills and farmland behind them. Look the other and there is the coast, with the Great Barrier Reef past it. After landing: a light snack and a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice.

Hot Air Balloon Cairns
Pre-dawn pickup from your accommodation, then the drive to the launch site to watch the balloons inflate. Into the basket with the pilot, and up over rainforest-covered hills, mountains and tableland with the sun coming up behind all of it. Look inland and the Atherton Tablelands run out; turn the other way and the coast and the Great Barrier Reef are there. The pilot brings the balloon down slowly to the landing point, where everyone pitches in to fold the envelope, and the morning finishes with the crew, a light snack and a glass of sparkling wine.
