The flight goes over the Atherton Tablelands, the upland country behind Cairns, and pickup can be from Cairns itself, the northern beaches or the Palm Cove hotels. Dawn is when the wildlife is out, and this is northern Queensland: wallabies and kangaroos in the paddocks, and a long list of birds. The Tablelands are farming country as well, so what passes underneath includes mango, banana, lychee, avocado, pineapple and lime crops. Finish times move with the season. The driver can take you back to your Cairns accommodation or, with notice, drop you at the Reef Fleet Terminal, Skyrail, Tjapukai, or a cafe if you would rather sort breakfast out yourself.

  1. Hot Air Balloon Cairns

The driver collects you at your pickup point and runs you out to the launch site. The flight goes up as the day starts, over the Atherton Tablelands. After landing everyone helps pack the balloon away, which the crew turn into the social part of the morning. Finish times vary through the year: the driver can return you to your Cairns accommodation or, with prior notice, drop you at the Reef Fleet Terminal, Skyrail, Tjapukai, or a cafe if you want breakfast on your own arrangements.

  2. Atherton Tablelands

The Atherton Tablelands, flown at dawn, which is the hour to see wallabies, kangaroos and a long list of birds. The Tablelands grow a good share of what northern Queensland eats, so the crops below include mangoes, bananas, lychees, avocados, pineapples and limes.
