Hot Air Balloon Ride Over the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve is a protected stretch of sand and rock outside the city, and the balloon crosses it at first light. Scale is what changes from the air. Dune fields that read as texture from a road turn into a pattern running to the horizon, cut by rocky outcrops and the open desert beyond them. Balloons are quiet. No engine, no rotor, nothing between the passengers and the burner, which fires in bursts and then leaves silence behind it. That silence is the part most people are unprepared for. The reserve has its own desert plants and animals, and several desert bird species can be picked out from the air. The sky over it is clear enough for stargazing. Transport is included, by 4x4 car in both directions. There is time at the camp too: tea, coffee, qahwa and dates, a buffet breakfast, archery. The deluxe option adds a camel ride. Flights are run by experienced, certified pilots, who set the safety rules for the morning and stick to them.
