Pamukkale Sunrise Balloon Flight above the Travertines and Ruins

Sixty minutes in the air over Pamukkale. The ground changes character as the balloon moves across it: white mineral terraces down the hillside, the thermal pools that built them, then the ruins of Hierapolis on the plateau above, with the theatre cut into the slope. It is a different proposition from walking the site. On foot the terraces are something you stand on barefoot, one pool at a time, and the shape of the whole formation stays out of reach. From a basket it reads at once, and the size of the Roman city beside it becomes obvious in a way the footpaths never manage.
