Phoenix Morning Balloon Ride with Champagne Breakfast in the Desert
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
PhoenixThe balloon works between 2,000 and 5,000 feet over the Sonoran Desert, high enough to see the shape of the whole valley and low enough to pick out individual saguaros. The flight runs 45 to 60 minutes, with nothing blocking the view in any direction. What happens after landing is the part people describe afterwards. The ground crew sets out a table in the desert, linen and china on it, and breakfast is served there with chilled champagne. Round-trip hotel transport can be added, with pickup from homes and hotels in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Mesa, Arcadia and Cave Creek, provided you are within 30 minutes of the check-in location.

Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve
Check-in is at the Deer Valley Airport Balloon Ride Parking Area, unless you booked the round-trip hotel transfers. From the basket the Sonoran Desert opens out below, with local landmarks, wildlife and desert plants all visible from above.
Camelback Mountain
Camelback Mountain, the ridge sitting in the middle of the Phoenix valley. The pilot fills in the history of the city and points out what is growing and moving down below.
Downtown Phoenix
Downtown Phoenix in the distance across the valley. On the way down you spot the table, laid with linen and china out in the desert, which gives away what comes next: a pre-selected breakfast and chilled champagne. First-time flyers get the balloonists' ceremony, which crews around the world have been performing for well over a century.

- Comfortable casual clothing is always recommended on our ballooning excursions, as we are enjoying nature in a desert environment. The temperature in the balloon is about the same as on the ground, so be sure to dress appropriately for the day’s anticipated temperatures. On any given day we recommend closed toe shoes, a light jacket, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a camera
- To ensure a safe hot air ballooning experience, passengers may not be pregnant at the time of flight, or have had recent surgery or broken bones, and should be able to stand for the duration of the flight (approximately 60 minutes). One should be able to jump off the second step of a ladder and be in good general health. All passengers are required to complete a waiver of liability before the tour.
- The total tour time is 3-4 hours if meeting at our check in location or 4-5 hours if utilizing our roundtrip hotel transportation services. The total tour time includes your transfers to our desert launch site, the viewing of the inflation of the balloon, the approximate 45-60 minute hot air balloon ride, post-flight bubbly and bites, as well as the presentation of commemorative flight certificates to take home.
- Our tours take place in the Sonoran Desert, and nature unfortunately does not provide a restroom. Our launch and landing sites vary from day to day dependent upon the winds, typically in remote parts of the desert. While there are usually abundant trees and bushes, there are no restroom facilities available during your trip, so be sure to utilize the restroom pre-flight!
- Though we have the most flyable days per year of anywhere in the country, poor weather can happen. For this reason, we always recommend booking your ballooning excursion early on in your stay so you have alternate date(s) for your flight should there be poor weather on your selected flight date. In the instance of a weather cancellation there is no charge to you, and you can reschedule at your convenience, or cancel your reservation entirely.
