Private Sunrise Balloon Flight for Two over the Algarve, from Lagos
A private balloon: the basket holds you and the pilot, nobody else. Sold for two, and also bookable as a group activity if you want the whole envelope for friends, family or colleagues. What it buys is not more air but more room to arrange things around you. The operator takes special requirements in advance and adapts the morning where it can. The flight lasts about an hour, and the whole trip takes three to five once you count the drive out, the inflation and the packing away. Departures are at sunrise, because that is when the air over the Algarve is most stable, and the weather on the day decides whether the flight goes at all. Balloons here fly year round. After landing there is a picnic breakfast in the countryside with traditional Portuguese food, and champagne to close the flight.

Algarve
An hour in the air along the Algarve. The wind on the day decides between the barrocal valleys of the western Algarve and the warmer air over the hills of the Baixo Alentejo. Travelling at wind speed means no draught in the basket and no sound but the burner. Flights run year round; sunrise is when conditions are steadiest, and the weather decides whether the morning goes ahead. The flight is about an hour, the whole trip three to five.
Monchique
The Monchique range seen from altitude, in every direction at once. It is a syenite massif, dissected by erosion, rising to 902 m at Fóia. The area is known for its plant life, for the medicinal spa waters at Caldas de Monchique, and for its honey and medronho, the local arbutus brandy.

The Algarve International Circuit at Portimão from above: 4.653 km of race track, with a karting circuit, an off-road track, a technology park, a hotel, a sports complex and apartments around it.
Algarve
The south-facing coast runs about 155 km. Past Cape St Vincent, the westernmost point, it turns north for another 50.
