Sunrise Balloon Flight over Margham with Breakfast and Camel Ride
The balloon goes up at sunrise over the desert, when the dunes still hold low light and turn gold for the half hour before the sun gets high. Photographs taken then look nothing like the ones taken at nine. The morning is timed rather than rushed. Flight first, then the camp, with enough room between the two that nobody is being hurried along. Breakfast at the camp is an international buffet, served after landing in a comfortable desert setting. A camel ride is included. The mix is deliberate: adventure at the start of the morning, comfort for the rest of it. It works for couples, families and anyone flying for the first time.

Margham
As the balloon climbs, the dune field opens out below in ripples and long contours, and it is the soft morning light that makes the pattern readable at all. The Arabian desert runs on past it, mostly empty and more striking for it. Wildlife depends on the hour and the season, but Arabian oryx, gazelles and camels are all possible from up there. The rise and drift of a balloon is quiet work, a long way from the noise of the city. Height is the point: the texture of the sand and the sheer size of the desert only read properly from a few thousand feet.
