Five flights are listed here, most of them private baskets for two or four rather than shared ones. They leave from the balloon field at Manacor, in the middle of the island, and from Cala Millor on the north-east coast, with the pilot choosing the site to suit the wind that morning.
What passes below is the interior rather than the resorts: dry-stone walls dividing small fields, almond and carob trees, old windmills, and villages that read as tight clusters of ochre roofs around a single church tower.

When to fly over Mallorca
An island season in the literal sense: the operators fly from March to November and put the equipment away for the winter. The flights leave from Manacor in the centre of the island, far enough from both coasts that the sea breeze arrives late.
Late is the operative word. Island thermals build faster than mainland ones in June, July and August, so the summer window is real but narrow — first light, and back down before the day turns. April, May, September and October are the months with room in them.

The island interior from above
The sea is half of what you get, and how much depends on the launch. From the Cala Millor site the coast is in view within the first minutes and the water off the eastern beaches turns from black to turquoise as the sun comes up. From Manacor the sea is a line on the horizon and the flight is about the interior. It is worth asking which site your booking uses, because the two mornings look quite different.
Either way the ground below is agricultural Mallorca. The field boundaries here are dry-stone walls built without mortar, some of them centuries old, and from a few hundred metres up they form a visible grid across the plain that no map shows and no road reveals — the clearest single indication that this is a worked landscape rather than a scenic one.
Sunset flights, and who is flying the balloon
Mallorca is one of the very few places on this site where the afternoon is a real option. Almost everywhere else the answer is dawn and only dawn, because that is the reliably calm hour; here the sea breeze settles again in the late afternoon and several operators sell a sunset slot at the same price. If a 5 a.m. start is what has been putting you off, this is the destination where you do not have to accept it.
The other thing worth knowing is who is in the basket with you. The operators flying here include pilots who have been Spanish national champions and currently sit near the top of the national ranking. That does not make the flight safer — licensing is identical across the EU — but it tends to show in how the balloon is handled close to the ground, which is where the skill is visible.
Questions about ballooning in Mallorca
Is there a weight limit on the Mallorca flights?
A hundred kilos is the figure that keeps appearing, but what happens above it differs. One listing asks passengers over 100 kg to buy a second seat. Another asks you to contact the operator first, and charges a supplement worked out from the excess. A third simply says it is not recommended. So the number is common to the island's operators, the consequence is not — ask before booking rather than at the field.
Is hotel pickup included, and where does it start from?
Rarely, and never everywhere. One private listing sells pickup at 25 EUR per person, on condition you request it well ahead, and it is not offered from every part of the island. On the Cala Millor flight there is no pickup at all: you reach the meeting point yourself and the morning ends there too. Arriving late means not flying, with no refund — that is stated, not implied.
Why do three of the five listings cost 400 EUR or more?
They are private baskets. A shared seat over the island is 189 or 190 EUR; above that you are hiring the balloon — 400 EUR for a private flight with champagne and tapas, 800 for two people at dawn, 1,080 for four. The hour in the air is the same hour. What changes is who else is standing in the basket with you, which on a shared flight can be a dozen strangers.
