JohannesburgBill Harrop's Original Balloon Safaris has been flying since 1981, and this listing wraps the flight in transport from Sandton, which is what makes it workable without a car. Pickup is at 4am, and the operator means 4am. The drive to the launch site at Hartbeespoort takes about an hour depending on traffic, and the return leg around 45 minutes. One detail worth reading before you book: the guide who drives you does exactly that. They take no part in the flight or the briefing, which are the balloon crew's job. All sales are final and cancellations are not refunded.

Sandton
Collection from the My Sandton Stop station, at the corner of 5th Street and Maude Street in Sandton. Collection time is strictly 4am.
Hartbeespoort
A luxury SUV takes you out to the Bill Harrop's launch site at Hartbeespoort. Around an hour, traffic depending.
On arrival
On arrival you get your flight ticket, a hot drink and a freshly baked mini muffin, plus time to photograph the balloons inflating as the sun comes up. The flight runs about an hour along the Magalies River Valley. Afterwards the transfer runs back to the launch site for a sparkling wine breakfast at the Clubhouse Pavilion. Note that the tour guide only drops guests off and collects them again: they take no part in the flight or the briefings.

Fitness: Participants must be nimble enough to climb in and out of the 1350mm high basket without assistance from anyone else, be able to jump unassisted from a height of 60cm and stand for the duration of the flight; approx. one hour unless stated otherwise.
