Twenty-four people, divided into compartments, on an hour-long flight. Most passengers find it perfectly good: you can see out, the pilot talks you through the valleys, and nobody has a bad time. But the people at the partitions are looking past someone else's shoulder for part of the flight, and turning round with a camera means asking two people to move.

What price does not buy here

It does not buy a better route either, because nobody steers a balloon; pilots change altitude to find a different current, and where you end up is the wind's decision. And it does not buy the champagne and the certificate, which are included in almost every listing in the region, including the 38 EUR one.

When the premium price is the right call
None of this means these flights are bad value.
