When to fly over Marrakech
Seven months of peak, from October to April: the longest window of any destination on this site. The Haouz plain is dry and stable through the winter, the Atlas is white on the horizon from December, and dawn temperatures sit where ballooning likes them.
July and August are the exception. Marrakech in high summer regularly passes 40 °C by mid-morning, and while the balloon is back on the ground long before that, most operators thin the schedule rather than fly into it.

What you fly over
The desert north of Marrakech is a stone desert. Grey and ochre ground, gravel, low scrub, wadis that run once or twice a year and stay dry the rest of it. From a few hundred metres up the pattern reads clearly: field boundaries drawn in loose rock, tracks that connect to nothing you can identify from above, and small clusters of flat-roofed mud-brick houses the same colour as the ground they stand on. Those are the Berber villages, and at that hour they are already awake. Smoke from cooking fires sits low in still air. Somebody is moving animals out. On the southern horizon the High Atlas carries the whole view, a long wall of rock with peaks above four thousand metres and snow on them for much of the year. It never gets any closer. A balloon has no throttle and no rudder, and what passes for steering is a matter of climbing or descending until the pilot finds air moving the way he wants.

What should I wear for a dawn flight near Marrakech?
Two sets of clothes for one morning. In January the Haouz plain sits around 6 °C before sunrise and reaches 18 by the afternoon, and sunrise itself is late — after eight — so the wait at the field is the cold part, not the flight. A proper jacket, closed shoes for a stony landing ground, and something underneath you are happy to be seen in at breakfast.
Is there a weight limit for the Marrakech balloons?
Yes, and it differs by operator. Two listings here cap a passenger at 110 kg, three at 120, and one states no maximum at all but asks you to declare anything above 120 kg because it changes how the basket is loaded. None of this is a national rule: it is the operator's own loading calculation, so the figure that counts is the one on the listing you book.
How do I know the operator is properly licensed?
Read what the listing itself states. Some here are explicit — one declares that it flies under the rules of the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority with passenger and third-party liability cover, another that its pilots hold EASA licences and eighteen years of flying. Others say nothing, which is not evidence either way. If it matters to you, ask before paying: an operator that holds the paperwork will send it.
